Slow and Wet…and not in a good way.
Last night takes the cake as far as poor course conditions and overall bad play. Only 4 players beat or matched their handicaps last night. The select few who probably didn’t lose a ball to a plugged fairway or duck pond were led by Zupcak (40/34), Devlin (53/35), Avram (46/36), and Horner (51/36). The only one to break 40 gross score was Bryan Savage who fired a ho hum 38. Bonus for him, his handicap went up a stroke! Well done Bry.
I could bash the course and lack of a beer cart girl for a while, but there was plenty of that going on during and after the round. I wont beat a dead horse, so consider that the last of the course conditions bashing for a while. On to the highlights.
Dave Porter showed up a minute or two late for his tee time, with no warm up, and proceeded to par 3 out of the first 4 holes which included a chip in and a few nice putts. He then proceeded to throw in an 8 and 9, just to make sure his handicap wasn’t going anywhere.
Former BA league member Mike Tracey made a cameo appearance with his former playing partner Dan Hoerner. Mike was dialed in after a year off from picking up a golf club and had the high score of the night, 69! With nowhere to go but up, look for Mike to improve on his next round, although likely not as Dan’s partner.
Half the league was around on the 18th to watch sub Tim Young blast his tee shot into the driving range hitting mats. Being heckled by Lee and others, to let the 8 year old at the range hit his ball to the green, Tim went against the crowd and shanked a shot towards the peanut gallery. On purpose?? Who knows, but it did lead to a questionable third shot choice from behind the electrical box/beer can holder. That, like the other two shots previously, did not go so well.
Nice turnout for the after party at Elmwood Inn. Even if its just for a beverage, try and make it out next time to meet any of the new league members if you haven’t already. First drink is on Knittel, standing rule.
Again, please play ready golf each week. There is no need for all 3 players to watch one person hit their shot in the fairway when their ball is nowhere near it. Get to your ball as long as you are not in the way of the shot of the person farther back than you. It really helps to speed up the round.
Thanks to Jeff for providing the media for todays post. If anyone has anymore, send them over and we will post them each week.
